Open Mic Rules
1. No talking during the show or we will ask you to leave. Please respect other comics as you would like to be respected.
2. If you want to go outside and talk/smoke, you must be at least 30 feet from the building. NO exceptions.
3. Please treat our staff, fellow comics, patrons, and our equipment with respect. If you cannot do this, you will not be welcome back.
4. You will get a Light when you have 1 minute remaining and another once you have reached your time. If you ignore the light and go over your time, that is called “Running the light.” If you “Run the Light” by more than 20 seconds, you will be prohibited from performing for 2 months.
5. If you cannot make it to your selected day, please let us know within 24 hours’ notice. If you are a no-show for your spot, you will be prohibited from performing for 2 months.
6. The Green Room is off-limits to anyone who is not on our staff.
Host:
If you are the host, you will get $25 and $20 off your bar tab.
You will start the show with a 6-minute set and let the audience know what to expect. Something like: “Welcome to ___________ Comedy Club Open Mic! Tonight you will see a range of comedians from professional comedians working on new material as well as newcomers trying stand-up for the first time, and none of us could do it without you, the audience, so thank you!” You will also address the comedians letting them know where the light is and when they will get the light, and when it’s time to wrap up their set. (see rule 4 above.)
You are in charge of running a smooth show, but you are not in charge of the list. This means that you do not have the authority to give spots to comedians who are not currently on the list.
Light:
If you are working “The Light”, you get a spot on that night’s open mic and $20 off your bar tab. This is an important responsibility and we ask that you be fair and honest and keep a close eye on your clock. Thank you for helping us out! If we can follow these simple rules, we’ll ensure a great show for everyone involved.
